Overview

The Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Laboratory of the Department of Electrical Engineering of the University of Rome "La Sapienza" is located in Via delle Sette Sale 12B, Rome, Italy, close to the Church of S. Pietro in Vincoli.

The Lab was founded in 1992 to promote scientific research and support EMC learning activities. For further information contact Prof. Maria Sabrina Sarto has been the laboratory Director since 1998. The Lab, initially founded to perform EMC conducted tests inside a shielded room for frequency up to 100 MHz, is now provided to perform radiated emission, radiated susceptibility and shielding effectiveness tests. The available equipment includes a reverberation chamber and a micromanipulator and enables to perform tests in the frequency range between 50 Hz (power frequency) and 40 GHz (microwaves).

In the last years the Lab focused on the nanotechnology for the Electrical and Electronic Engineering and electromagnetic compatibility. To support this activty the Lab staff promoted the Research Centre for Nanotechnology Applied to Engineering (CNIS) whose Director is Prof. Maria Sabrina Sarto and the Master Degree in Industrial Nanotechnology Engineering.

Many research activities are carried out in the EMC Lab. In particular, some activities are related to research programs financed by national and international institutions, research institutes, industries. A list of selected ongoing and concluded research can be found in the relevant projects page.

Moreover, the Lab supports exercitations for several classes of Electromagnetic Compatibility and Electrotechnics for many engineering courses (Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Clinical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nanotechnology Engineering and so on).

Collaborations are active with Italian and foreign research Institutes and Universities such as University of L’Aquila (Italy), Università Politecnica delle Marche (Ancona, Italy), Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and the Environment (ENEA), Italian Environment Protection and Technical Services Agency (APAT), National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST, Boulder, Colorado, USA), University of York (UK), University of Oostenda (Belgium), Alenia Aeronautica (Italy), TechnicalUniversity of Delft (The Netherlands), University of Toulouse (France), University of Salerno (Italy), University of Latvia (Riga, Latvia), National Inst. for Research and Development in Microtechnologies (Bucharest, Romania), Swedish Defence Research Agency (Linköping, Sweden), Italian National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN), Philips Electronics Nederland (Eindhoven, The Netherlands), Smoltek (Göteborg, Sweden).
